To list your item, simply click on the “Sell” link found on the header navigational bar. The listing process is split up into several main sections:
- Category Selection
- Item Details
- Auction Settings
- Shipping and Payment
- Listing Preview
- Listing Confirmation
The listing process is developed in such a way that you are guided through every step. If you make an error, you can revise previously entered information at any time by using the “Previous Step” navigation button to go back to earlier screens.
STEP ONE:
The first part of the process is to choose the category you wish to list your item in. The categories follow the top level of the Slocum classification system.
STEP TWO:
Step two enables you to enter your item title and description; a full editor is in place to enable you to use HTML descriptions if you wish. You may also alter the font, font size, color and many other text options.
STEP THREE:
On step three, you can set the following:-
· Auction type:
Standard Auction - All auctions are defaulted to the standard auction setting. Dutch listings are not available as this site is intended for exchange between collectors rather then retail sales.
· Currency:
All auctions default to USD for consistency purposes. The buyer and seller are free to complete the transaction in any currency they choose.
· Quantity:
You may only list one item at a time. Multiple items require multiple listings. If you have more then one item to sell, the easiest way to list successive items is by using the user control panel. Go to Members AreaàOpen Auctions and select “Sell Similar” on the right hand side of the listing you wish to replicate. Using this technique, all fields will be filled out for you in advance.
· Auction Starts At:
This value is your opening bid for the item.
· Reserve Price:
Enabling a reserve price effectively means you will not sell the item for less than the amount set. For example, you can set the start price at 5.00 but only accept winning bids over 50.00 - should a bid be placed for 49.99 the item will close without a winner.
· Offer-Range:
You can set a price bracket in which you are willing to consider an offer for a straight purchase of the item. For example, if you set the price brackets from 15.00 to 100.00, interested parties will be able to immediately offer you an amount within these limits. You may then opt whether to accept or decline the offer at any time via the members area.
· Start Time:
All auctions default to an immediate start time.
· End Time:
All auctions default to a 10 day listing.
· Image upload:
To accompany your item you can either upload images from your local computer or enter the URL of an image(s) hosted elsewhere. Please note that the picture size may not exceed 500Kb. Additionally, any images with a width in excess of 500 pixels will be resized to a maximum of 500 pixels width.
STEP FOUR
On this page you can set your shipping and payment preferences.
Generally shipping costs are borne by the buyer. You can also indicate your accepted payment preferences. Note that you must select at least one payment type.
STEP FIVE
Proceeding on, you can review the listing and make any changes required. Please note you may still edit your description after the item is listed, provided no bids have been placed for the item.
At the bottom of this final page you will find the Listing Fee and Terms and Conditions. Listing items is free of charge, so no fees will apply. Please read the Terms and Conditions carefully to ensure you agree with the provisions. Remember that Cubicdissection Marketplace simply acts as a facilitator between collectors, and bears no responsibility for the completion of the transaction, nor your success in collecting payment for the item. More information about the limits of our liability may be found in the terms and conditions page.
The final step provides you with listing confirmation. Once an item is listed it cannot be removed. If there are no bids on the item, the description may be edited. Once a bid is placed, the listing cannot be changed.
Cubicdissection Marketplace utilizes a proxy bidding system. That means that when you place a bid, the site automatically bids the minimum necessary amount to maintain status as the highest bidder without revealing the amount of your maximum bid. You pay only what is necessary to win the auction within the constraints of the bidding increment.
All bids are anonymous to protect the identity of bidders. Sellers usernames are clearly shown.
Auctions within one day of closing are protected by an anti-sniping feature. Due to the international nature of the clientele, any bid placed within the last 24 hours automatically extends the bidding time by a certain amount the moment the bid is placed. Therefore, “sniping” auctions is foiled. A sniper bidding during the last few seconds of the auction simply extends the auction time, allowing the sniped bidder to reply. The time extension follows this table:
Overtime day 1 through 5............................24 hour extension
Overtime day 5 through 8............................12 hour extension
Overtime day 8 through 9............................6 hour extension
Overtime 9 days plus...................................3 hour extension
IMPORTANT: If an item is protected by a reserve, the anti snipe feature will not be activated unless the previous bid has met the reserve. To say it another way, if you place a bid and it does not meet the reserve requirement, the auction will end at the originally scheduled time, and will not be extended.
To place a bid:
When viewing the item details page you, you may place a bid on the item using the “Place a Bid” field at the bottom of the page. If the seller has not agreed to ship items internationally, and you do not live in the same country as the seller, you will not be able to place a bid.
To place your bid simply enter the amount you wish to bid (e.g. 50.00). Please note no currency symbols are required. The bid will be placed in the default auction currency ($USD).
Once finished, you will be asked to review your bid. At this time you should also review vital item details such as the shipping conditions before confirming your bid. To submit your bid simply press the “Place Bid” button.
At times a seller may elect to protect his item with a reserve amount. This can be thought of as an undisclosed bid by the seller. If an auction is protected by a reserve, the seller is not obligated to sell the item unless the reserve amount has been met. If the final bid does not meet the reserve, the seller may elect to accept the final nid anyway, in which case the item is sold and the bid is considered binding. To reiterate, if you bid on an item with a reserve yet do not meet or exceed the reserve amount, the seller may still elect to sell the item to you for the amount you bid, and you will be obligated to pay for the item in question.
IMPORTANT: If an item is protected by a reserve, the anti snipe feature will not be activated unless the previous bid has met the reserve. To say it another way, if you place a bid and it does not meet the reserve requirement, the auction will end at the originally scheduled time, and will not be extended.
The auction watch features notifies you of newly listed auctions which contain keywords you have chosen. For example, if you are looking for items designed by Stewart Coffin, you could enter those keywords and save the search. Each time a new auction is listed containing those keywords you will be notified via email.
The “Make Offer” function allows a bidder to make an instant offer on the item being sold. If the offer is within the range specified by the seller, he/she will be immediately notified. Once notified, the seller can choose to accept or turn down the offer. Please note that the offer range must be specified by the seller during the auction listing process. The offer range, once specified, remains hidden from prospective buyers.
Once an auction is successfully completed, both buyer and seller are notified by email.
Should the buyer wish to continue bidding on items the seller has listed, he may request that the buyer delay the invoice until he is finished bidding. Sellers are encouraged to combine shipping costs when possible.
Once the buyer is finished bidding, the seller must then calculate postage for the item, and send an invoice to the buyer. To send the invoice, go to:
Members AreaàSellingàSold Items
Click on the “Send Product(s) Invoice” link underneath the item. This will direct you to a page which shows all the items won by that bidder. To send the invoice, simply click on the box next to the item you wish to invoice (you can click on multiple items to send a single invoice for them all). Fill in the amounts for postage and insurance, and click on “Proceed”. It is important to note that you must select the checkbox next to the item to send the invoice; if you leave the boxes unchecked, the invoice will not be sent.
To leave feedback, go to Members AreaàReputationàLeave Comments.
There you may rate the user on a scale of 1-5 and leave specific comments. Please remember that comments are permanent and will not be deleted.
Always attempt to work out any issues with the other member first. Leaving negative feedback should be an absolute last resort.
Auction fees are simple; a flat 4.85% of the final value of the auction on any amount over $50. If the item sells for less than $50, there are no fees.
Fees are due and payable 20 days after your last item closes.. You will be billed / sent an invoice at this time. Your fee balance may be viewed at any time by going to Members AreaàMy AccountàAccount History. The balance does not have to be paid until you receive an invoice from the webmaster as described above. Balances must be paid within 30 days of reciept of the invoice or your account will be suspended. If the balance is not paid by the start of the next scheduled auction, your account will be deleted.
Fees may be paid by sending a personal check or money order, or through WesternUnion or PayPal.
Non-Paying Bidders: Payment will be sent within two weeks of the auction close. Extensions to this timeline may be approved at the sellers option. After two weeks, the item will be offered to the next highest bidder, and the non-paying bidder will be banned from the next event. On the second non-paying offense, the bidder will be permanently banned from the Marketplace.
Non-Shipping Seller: Any seller who refuses to ship the item once payment has been sent will be immediartely and permanently banned.
