WHAT'S NEW? (2003 ARCHIVE)

12.12.2003
I have changed the way puzzles will be sold on my site. Previously, each puzzle was custom made. Unfortunately, this is a very time intensive and inefficient endeavor.
Therefore, I have decided to offer a very limited number of puzzles which I enjoy working on. I think this will result in higher quality puzzles; like anyone else, I do my best work when I am excited and passionate about a project or design. Puzzles will be made in limited editions of anywhere from 6 to 48 puzzles. I have also stopped accepting custom work.
If you are interested in any items which have now become out of stock, please Email me to let me know. When I have enough prospective buyers, I will then be able to do a "run" of that puzzle.

In other news, I am starting to become very interested in making puzzle boxes. The 80+ move box (mentioned below) has been making the rounds among collector and craftsman friends. So far, no one has managed to open it. I have therefore decided to name it the "Impossible Box". Although the design is not dead, I will never make it this difficult again.
I made a test run of the 16 move sliding panel box mentioned earlier as a prototype. 6 were made, and the couple which were not given as gifts to friends were quickly sold to collectors I know. I plan on making 30 more of the boxes, for a limited edition run of 36 total. I will be taking pending orders for this box soon in the "Puzzles for Sale" section. This is just a first-come, first-served, no obligation list.

I am very happy to announce the addition of the Stickman Box Company's No.3 Puzzle Box to the Puzzles for sale section. This box requires an astounding 106 Moves to open completely! It is truly a groundbreaking creation and a work of art as well. We also have a very limited amount of Stickman's Lock Box available. While not truly a "Puzzle Box", it is certainly a puzzling box, and well worth a look. I look forward to collaborating with the Stickman Box company very closely in the future.

Other Business:
October has been a busy month for me with non-puzzling endeavors. November is looking pretty clear, so I hope to get back on the horse (and in the shop).

I sent several puzzles to John Rausch's puzzle world, so hopefully this site will appear there soon. Although the Crosses & Cubes project for William Waite was delayed, it is not canceled, and I should be able to produce some of those puzzles this month, which will be available on his website.

I made a prototype of a puzzle box that is along the lines of the japanese sliding panel variety, but with many new twists. I will post pictures of it here soon. The box turned out to be too difficult in my opinion, requiring 80+ moves to open if you don't make any wrong turns. I built the thing, and I can't seem to solve it with less then 120+ moves. In fact, it took me 2 hours to open after I finished the final assembly! I'm not sure if I will make this box for sale, or re-design it to be a bit less daunting. Please Email me if you would be interested in a box this difficult to encourage me to make it.

I made a few prototypes of Ry's designs. I'm not sure the same woods will be used, but the basic design elements are there. I expect the first RKB puzzles to be available in early to mid October. I am currently taking names of customers who would like to reserve a copy. Please Email me if you are interested.

I am pleased to announce that the excellent puzzle designer Ronald Kint-Bruynseels has generously given me permission to make and sell some of his designs from my site. Ronald's designs are highly innovative and frequently explore new territory and ideas in puzzle design. I'm very excited for the chance to make them, and look forward to offering many of them to puzzlers for the very first time! I will most likely do limited edition, signed and numbered runs of each design. The runs will be quite small, perhaps 10-12 puzzles each. Given all the other projects I'm eager to do, this may be the only time they are offered here at CubicDissection, so if you would like to check the designs out and let me know which you like, I will put you on my list!
