I just got the new bits and pieces catalog.  Congradulations to Bits and Pieces for getting back up an running, and congradulations to James Dalgety, Peter Hajek, Ken Stevens, Frank Chambers, and Vladimir Krasnoukhov.  It is nice to see thier puzzle designs in there.

The only problem is that they only ship in the 48 contiguous states which I ass-u-me means the USA.  I wanted to order stuff from them but just got a cold shoulder. Bummer!!

Johan - I know they used to have UK based operations, so you may want to check if they will ship internationally.

Johan, if you see something that you just can't live without on bits and pieces, you can order it and have it shipped to me.  I can hold it for you until you get enough items to warrent a combined shipment to Africa.  I do that for Diniar in Germany, and would be happy to do the same for you provided that you don't get too insane with the amount of items.

John and I get our very own site at www.bitsandpiecescanada.ca
The only thing is it doesn't have all the items that the American site has.  I'm curious about the matchbox puzzle box but I don't know if the Canadian site will get it.  Eric can you comment on the Trinity puzzle box? Quality? Difficulty?

Is it just me or was that a naming mistake?

Funny you ask, I ordered that just to check it out.  Very disappointing.  Quality so-so - mechanism is a simple knock pin/magnet.

Thanks Eric, I didn't expect the quality to be very good.  I'm sure they crank out those products.

Hey did anyone else notice the forum was down today?  I kept receiving a Server 500 error?

Hey, I thought the quality of Bits and Pieces was supposed to have improved.  I know that I have had to repair a few things that Diniar ordered because the fell apart in my hand when I took them out of the box, but that was a while ago.

Hey Robert, I can't comment on the quality of the new items, but I have purchased item in the past that were poorly put together.  However on a good note I have had great luck with using hot water from a kettle to soften glue joints and have rebuilt a few of there puzzle boxes with great results.  I was able to purchase there remake of Akio Kamei's Die box off Ebay.  When I received it I was very disappointed with how loose it was.  But using the kettle trick made it better than new.

However this technique is very risky, as the wood may warp, swell or split, so I use it sparingly.

Hmmmm after writing this I have just realized that the microwave technique might be a better way of doing the same thing.  Probably much safer than wetting the wood!!!
