Spotted this on SawmillCreek: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=91368As part of Sears' Labor Day Sale, they have three Freud 10" saw blades on sale for about 50% off.
Specifically: LU85R010 80T Ultimate Cut-off blade $42 LM72R019 24T Heavy Duty Rip Blade $46 LU84RO11 50T Combo Blade $36
Sears also has the Avanti 60T and 80T for sale at $27 and $30 respectively. They're not 50% off like the others but thought I'd mention it.
The sale ends on 10/4/08.

Excellent bargains, but it just makes me realize how much I have already spent on blades. I recently ordered a saw blade shaprener from harbor freight for $59. It has not arrived yet, but hopefull I can keep all my blades in good condition for less than the cost of buying new or sending them out for sharpening. We will see if it is a good investment.
Hey, whatever happened to getting together to buy woodworking equipment in bulk and sharing the savings. Seems like we all use roughtly the same saw blades.

Robert, ya gotta pay to play! I have ~$1000 in blades. I know for a fact Lee has probably double that.

Kerry, thanks for the tip on the bandages. I have a bottle of peroxide in the shop. A splash of that, add painters tape and a folded up paper towel and I'm good to go!

The blade sharpener works well, but I found it somewhat akward to work with. The thing is that it takes a good while to position the sharpening disc at the exact angle. If you are off just a little bit it will not sharpen the blade. Then of course, it you have blades issued by different companies, they all have slighly different beveled angles, so you have to readjust things again for each new blade.
I have a dremmel attachement (a cotton honing tip) that I use to keep blades sharp between regular shrpenings. I can sharpen an entire blade by hand in 5 minutes with the dremmel attachement, but it takes me more than 10 just to set up the automatic sharpener for a particular blade. It does a better job, but takes more time. Also, to just to see clearly how to line up the sharpening disc, I had to take off all the safety guards (which I was going to do anyway).
I would give the system a 4 out of 10 in ease of use. I would give it an 8 out of 10 on results. If all of your blades have the same cutting angle, then I would recommend it. If you use very high quality blades with very steep teeth angles (more than 40 degrees) then it would not get it at all as it won't sharpen bevels that steep.
Oh, but by the way. I do give the dremmel cottong honing tips a 10 out of 10. They work extremely well, and you can use them to sharpen blades while still attached to the table saw without removing or repositioning current jig set ups. If you have a dremmel, these tip attachements cost about $5 for a pack of 10, and a single tip will sharpen about 3 blades very nicely.
