Hi All,
Another UK based collector here (Hi Frank!)
Current puzzle making activities are restricted to live cube. If I demonstrated even a limited level of craftsmanship my efforts would soon be focussed (not by me!) towards DIY activities around the home rather than life's essentials like puzzle building and collecting!
Yes, I'm an addict too.
Steve

Hi
I'm Johan Heyns of South Africa and I make most of my own puzzles due to exchange rate costs that makes it really (actually prohibitively) expensive to import puzzles, especially if you want collectors items.
I've been collecting since 1979, but only started making them in earnest in the last few years in order to grow my collection.

Welcome Johan, how long have you been making puzzles? You're work looks very nice, can you post more pics of your puzzles, or do you have your collection hosted somewhere, I'd like to see more . I've never shipped to South Africa, are shipping costs 'prohibitive' as well?

Hi John
Shipping costs are also expensive. For a guy with a daughter at university and a son still at school this have to take the back seat.
I've been making since about 1998, with a 4 year break from 2002 - 2006 since I did not have workshop space.
Can I send you an e-mail with a photo of the last five months work?
Regards

I'm Johan Heyns of South Africa A few weeks ago someone from South Africa contacted me by e-mail... but the message (and some others) was lost in a 'compacting' process that somehow went wrong. I wonder if that was you and what that message was all about. RKB

OK, that was you. I've seen the pictures, but didn't pay much attention to the message at the time (had some other things to do). I guess I will see them again here on the forum.

Hi All... I should have done this awhile ago, but time always seems to run away from me. My name is irish, hailing you from the state of AR. Unlike all the talented people here, I do not make puzzles, I just collect puzzles and play with them. A couple of years ago circumstances in my life changed, and I needed to find a different hobby. Something that would keep me from going stir crazy, after much pondering, and a few failures, I came across a puzzle from my childhood, and the light bulb went off. This was the perfect hobby for me. So now I buy, sell, trade, and mostly play with puzzles & brainteasers. I am also excellent at nagging my poor hubby into making puzzles for me. He is one amazing man. He can take one of my half baked ideas, and turn it into a piece of art. He went as far as making me a working combination lock all out of wood, it is just spectacular. He has made several puzzles, and puzzle stands for my collection. My dream at this point is to sell enough puzzles to have a work shop built for him, so he has the room he needs for all his tools to make the many things on both our list... I have some questions about puzzles, but I am not sure which forum to use to ask them. If someone could please direct this newbe to the right place, I would greatly appreciate it. I am looking forward to being an active part of your group... irish (Yes that is my real name)

Welcome aboard, Irish. For the rest of you, Irish was one of the very first of my supporters and got me off the ground with beginning puzzlemaking and selling them. Actually, I think she has more of my puzzles in her collection that I have in my own...since she keeps multiple copies!
As far as your questions go - I think you could just pick a thread that seems to apply the best, or start your own. There is also a General/Off Topic section if you are unsure - though most of that seems to be non-puzzle related.

I own two of Scott's puzzles, a Convolution, and a 3-piece block puzzle, and the work on both are beautiful. It's great to see so many photos of his other puzzles, thanks for putting the site up!
