Thanks for offering this, John!

I hope you don't mind, but I borrowed the picture for my avatar.
I have yet to take a good picture of my puzzles...  One of these
days I will learn the secret...

Cheers,
Derek

Hi Gents

I am one of about 6 collectors in South Africa and also the only one that make puzzles.  (About 60% of my ? 350 -400 puzzles I made myself.)  Attached my version of the Really Bent Board Burr that I made for my collection.

Johan, welcome to the Forum!  Your Really Bent Board Burr looks fantastic!

As you get a chance, please post your thoughts on puzzlemaking techniques, jigs, methods of work, etc.  I think we will all find your input very useful and interesting.  Perhaps some of our posts might be helpful to you as well.

Hi Tom

I would rather be modest.  Compared to some of the puzzles I've seen that you have made, I still hold to my opinion.  I make one offs for my collection, so the chances for a flaw etc is much bigger than when you do a setup for a production run of ten or twenty pieces.

I did not pin or strengthen the puzzle at first, the result being that it was only done afterwards.  By that stage I was becoming anxious to try and solve it and one or two mishaps happened.

Thanks for the compliment though.

I'm impressed!

Did you find both solutions?  Smiley

I finished the making of the puzzle 2 days before the 3rd South African Puzzle Party.  Got the plan from the "Puzzles must be Played" website.  Unfortunately I had to cheat in the end to put it together for the SAPP.  I was a bit ticket off since I had to make an extra piece, since the last piece was a mirror of the one as shown in the plan which really had me under pressure. I used the 10 move solution from the IPP 27 to put it together.  The difficult mirror solution, for which I have to make another new piece since I ruined the other one to figure out the neatest and easiest way to strengthen it, will be attempted one winter evening in front of the fire with a good bottle of red wine.
