The exact spelled out solution can be found in the 1992 version of Puzzle Craft.  It can be found here http://www.puzzleworld.org/PuzzleCraft/pc92.pdf on pages 59-60.

The VRML model is pretty neat too.

Peter,

First off, I love the box and would like to see your modified plans for it.  You did a great job!! I love the edge detail.  I've looked at many of the plans on the website you linked to and they are very interesting.  I wish someone would publish a nice book just on puzzle boxes and their construction.

Secondly, I echo Eric's thoughts on the table saw.  I think you would be much better off with a contractor's model with a mobile base without the wings if too bulky.  Most of the time the wings are not needed for what we are doing. However, you may find that you need to mount one wing just to keep the fence rails in their proper places.  Whatever saw you decide upon, it is obvious you have the talent, so keep at it.  Congratulations on the nifty box and I hope to see more of your work soon.

The box looks very impressive, Ron.  You can definitely enter the competition without being a member.  You will need two copies of each puzzle you want to enter.  The rules are on the PuzzleWorld website.

The table saw is made by SawStop. They make a cabinet saw and a contractor's version.  It is only on their saws.  See more on their website www.sawstop.com.

A couple fragrant woods I like that haven't been mentioned yet are walnut and verawood.

Great job Stephen!  Way to stick to it and not give up! You give way too much credit to me.  It was all your doing. Congratulations!  It is not only a testament to your woodworking skill, but also your patience! 180 pieces!! WOW!!  Truly an amazing accomplishment.

On page 126 of PWPD (under the picture of a Split Star), Stewart Coffin wrote, "Perhaps someone will now be encouraged to try a three tiered design."  We now know that someone is Stephen Chin.

So you said you'll have 100 of those ready as your exchange puzzle next year?    Grin Grin Grin

10  Main Forum / General Discussion / Stewart Coffin Article in November Games Magazine on: September 06, 2008, 02:44:43 PM
My November issue of Games Magazine arrived in the mail today.  To my surprise, there is a nice four page article in there on Stewart's puzzles written by Tom Cutrofello.  The article contains a nice quote from Scott Peterson and another from Mike Toulouzas.  Several pictures of Stewart's puzzles including a Garnet I made and sold on the site (in Rob Stegmann's collection).  Our website is also listed as a place where copies of Coffin's puzzles can be found.

Who is the sneaky bugger now?

You're a madman.  Are you sure you didn't find your table saw?  I can't imagine tackling this puzzle without it.  Great job!  Thanks for sharing!!

I told him he should call it Pain in Uranus.

Can you give us an idea of its size?
